2024 - Beau LaBore - Stillwater

Beau LaBore is a 1997 graduate of South St. Paul High School where he was an all-state linebacker and played in the Metro’s 27-26 victory over the Outstate in the All-Star Game. He attended St. John’s University and played football under legendary coach John Gagliardi. LaBore was a two-time All-American linebacker for the Johnnies who lost to Mount Union 10-7 in the 2000 National Championship Game. LaBore earned a Social Science and Secondary Education Degree, followed by a Master’s Degree in Teaching and Learning and a K-12 Principal License through St. Mary’s University.

LaBore was an assistant coach at Minnetonka, Hastings, and South St. Paul before becoming head football coach at Woodbury High School in 2005. In 2009, LaBore was the defensive coordinator in a 54-13 Metro victory in the Minnesota High School All Star Game. He has been head coach at Stillwater Area since 2011. That same year, he was inducted into the South St. Paul High School Athletic Hall of Fame. The Ponies have won five sub-district championships and two section championships.

Through the Tackle Cancer Board, LaBore was awarded the Randy Shaver Cancer Research and Community Fund “Friendship Award” in 2015. LaBore is the MFCA Community Service Award chair, serves on the Executive Director’s Committee, and was President in 2019-2020. He earned the “Don Swanson” Award for exemplary service to the MFCA in 2021. The second oldest of seven children, LaBore chose a career in education because several teachers and coaches had an indelible impact on his life. The Ponies coaching staff fosters a program that makes playing football fun, challenging, and more than just a game. Each year, the Ponies give hundreds of hours to youth football, nursing homes, Tackle Cancer, adaptive athletes, and the area food shelf. LaBore and his wife, Ashley, live in Stillwater and have a two-year-old daughter, Brooke.

2023 - Bryan Strand - Barnesville

Bryan Strand graduated from Southland High School in 1991. In high school he played football, basketball and baseball and had the opportunity to play for his father Dick.

After high school, Bryan played four years of football at Mayville State University in North Dakota where he earned a degree in Business Education and a minor in coaching.

From 1997 to 1999, he was at Menahga High School where he was an assistant coach in football and baseball, as well at the head boy’s coachforbasketball. From1999-2004,Bryancoachedandtaughtat LeCenter High School. At LeCenter, he served as defensive coordinator, head boys basketball coach, and assistant baseball. Bryan coached baseball for one year then served for four years as the school’s athletic director.

In 2004, the Strands moved to Barnesville where he took over as the high school principal. In 2005, he was hired as the head football coach. Over the past 18 years, Barnesville has won 10 conference/ district championships, been to 12 section title games, winning 9 of them and making the state semi-finals 6 times, and the championship game 3 times. Barnesville won their first ever state championship this past fall in AA. Bryan’s career record is 156-44

Bryan is married to Meg and has 5 children - Robbie, Taylor, Michael (Kailee), Sydney and Jacob. He is also the proud grandpa to Oaklyn and Cash, with the third grandchild due this summer.

2022 - Rodney Lossow - Minneapolis South

Rodney Lossow is a 1983 Graduate of Minneapolis South High School. He participated in Football, Hockey and Baseball while in High School. He attended the University of Wisconsin Madison on a Football Scholarship. After College, he was drafted by the New England Patriots and played 5 seasons of professional football. Since 1992, he has taught Physical Education and Developmental Adapted Physical Education in the Minneapolis School District. Rodney has coached Football for 3 decades in Minneapolis, 18 as the Head Coach at Roosevelt High School and 5 years at South High School.

Roosevelt High School, while Rodney was the head coach, went to state in the fall of 1998. Rodney has also been a head coach in Gymnastics, Softball and Badminton in Minneapolis.

Rodney is married to Janine and has 3 sons, Malachi, Josiah and Elijah.

Rodney believes that Sport provides great opportunities to teach people how to love one another unconditionally and develop the character traits that will better their lives and the lives of others. The Character Values that Rodney teaches come from the life of Christ. Rodney believes that if we can show Unconditional Love like Jesus has done for us and possess the Character Values of Christ, such as the acceptance of responsibility, rejection of passivity, the display of humility and courageous leadership, the world would be a better place.
